The following list of scholarships represents just some of the opportunities available to students.  Everyone is encouraged to conduct a personalized search for bursaries and scholarships at www.studentawards.com or refer to the Scholarships and Financial Aid List available in the Guidance Office. Students are also encouraged to explore scholarship and bursary programs that may be available through their parents' workplaces.

14.Retail Council of Canada

-candidates must be pursuing post-secondary studies in  a retail or business

related field

-complete a 500 to 700 word essay

15. The Brian Smith Memorial Scholarship
-applications are available in the Guidance Office

-candidates must attend college or university in the city of Ottawa

-there must be a demonstration of financial need; candidates must also demonstrate that they have overcome significant personal hardship

-active involvement in school or community sports programs

-participation as a community volunteer 

-no specific academic requirement

16. Noreen Young Bursary

applications are available in the Guidance Office

-candidates must be entering a post-secondary program in Sept. 2008 in Visual or Performing Arts (Music, Theatre, Graphic Design, Broadcasting)

-candidates must present a portfolio consisting of 5 to 10 pieces of their work, as well as a current sketchbook.

-applicants in the Performing Arts should be prepared to demonstrate their ability in a chosen short performance.  Interview required.

17. Laurentain University Leadership Award

            -applications available in the Guidance Office

            -candidates must be attending Laurentian University in the Fall of 2009

            -demonstrate leadership within the school community

            -candidates must have contributed in a positive way to making their school and community a better place

18. RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship

-must be attending College or University Fall 2009

19. Enrichment Mini-Course Program Scholarship

-applications are available in the Guidance Office

-candidates must be admitted as full time students to Carleton University

-80% average or higher

-must have participated in the Enrichment Mini-course program at Carleton or Ottawa U

-$500. scholarships will be given to the two candidates with the highest scholastic standing

20. Arts Carleton Place Student Bursary Award

- applications are available in the Guidance Office

-overall average of 75%

-candidate must be enrolled in a full time College or University program in any artistic discipline

-have demonstrated a commitment to their art form in their high school and community

-candidates must be applying to a fulltime program in a Canadian College or University

-must be in good academic standing

22. Aird Scholarship

-applications available in Guidance

-candidates must have a physical disability that is a major, longterm impairment that severely restricts activities

-plan to register in an undergraduate degree program or a two or three year diploma program at College

-Deadline: April 2009

23. Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarships

-be attending College or University

-illustrate some involvement in extra curricular activities

 24. The Cliff Bennett Nature Bursary

- applications available in the Guidance department

-candidate must be entering a post secondary program that relates to, and will contribute to the preservation/improvement of the natural environment

-academic achievement

-demonstrated financial need

-preference may be given to students with verifiable learning difficulties

-scholarship is worth $500.

24. Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital Auxillary Bursary

-applications can be picked up in the Guidance Office

-candidate must be applying to a Health Science Program (Nursing, Lab Tech.) college or university bound

-demonstrates financial need

25. Learning Matters Bursary

applications available in the Guidance Office

-candidates must be entering a post-secondary program in Fall 2008

-must demonstrate financial need and one or more of the following: community volunteering, academic excellence, and a career objective which will make a positive contribution to Canadian society

-scholarship is worth $500.00 and a culinary Co-Op experience at a select Ontario hotel

-candidates must demonstrate volunteer work beyond the required 40 hours

30. Monsato Opportunity Scholarships

Notre Dame Scholarships and Bursaries

Ample scholarships and bursaries will be awarded at Notre Dame's Graduation Ceremony in October 2008. These awards are donated by community organizations and recognize a variety of student achievement and involvement in the school and wider community. Students are encouraged to be actively involved in volunteer efforts outside their required 40 hours, and should be striving to achieve high academic standards in their studies. These bursaries and awards do not require an application; the Graduation Committee will go through a selection process to determine eligible candidates. A list of these awards is available in the Guidance Department.


Suggestions for Completing a Scholarship Application

-do a rough draft
-have it proofread
-read over all instructions
-be creative, particularly in essay writing
-apply for as many scholarships as possible
-make a photocopy of your submission
-complete well before the deadline date
-ask for help (guidance/parent/teacher) when in doubt
-give reference person at least 1 week’s notice
-provide them with a photocopy of the criteria being used (written instructions) as well as list of extra-curricular/community/awards/interests to assist in the write up
-send a thank you note to the reference person
-ask for more references than you required (4 if you need 3)
-tell the truth (don’t exaggerate)
-send materials through priority post or courier
-submission must be done very neatly
