3. Read the Post Secondary Course Calendars
in the Guidance Office
-identify a few programs that may interest you….
then read a College or
University calendar…find out what courses you would actually
take if you
pursued this pathway
4.Co-Operative Education
-make an appointment with Mr. Haughian and explore
the local job market to find
out if there is a placement in a career you would like to explore
5.Networking
-speak to your family, friends, teachers about
careers and post-secondary possibilities…they know you,
they know your interests and abilities
-i.e. if you are interested in Biology, ask Mr. Ball to suggest
some possible careers, or post-secondary programs to explore
-job shadow….i.e. go to work with a family member and
get firsthand knowledge about a
job
6.Professional Career Counselling
Centre for Psychological Services at the University
of Ottawa
-career counseling conducted by Phd students under the supervision
of registered
psychologists
Five Phase Counselling Package Includes:
1.Intake Session 2 hours
2.Assessment 2 or 3 testing sessions (self perception test,
abilities and aptitude
test, vocational/interest test, personality, psychological/social
adjustment test)
3.Feedback 2 1 hour sessions interpreting results
4.Intervention 5 1 hour sessions (counseling on career pathways)
5.Written Report
